Heritage Church
is actively involved in a wide variety of outreach and mission support projects
that address the concerns and conditions of people within the local community,
as well as across the world. The purpose of this ministry is to improve the
quality of life and to make God's Word available for all people.
Heritage regularly participates in providing practical assistance to local
families in need by giving food baskets from Godʼs Kitchen, by supporting the
Open Hands Ministries of Stahlstown, the Ligonier Valley Food Bank and Christian
Charities. Our church also actively
supports the Valley Youth Network, an interdenominational community youth
ministry, Ligonier Valley Meals on Wheels, which provides meals to those in
need. We also support the
Westmoreland County Prison Ministry of Chaplain Jom Badamo; and the Western PA
Prison Ministry directed by Randy Datsko, which provides prisoners the
opportunity to learn Godʼs word through Disciple Bible Study.
We contribute to
mission projects of the United Methodist Church such as Henderson Settlement in
Kentucky. Heritage also
supports the work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief by supplying
health kits and school kits, by giving to the One Great Hour of Sharing and to
other special requests for hunger, refugee and disaster relief as they occur.
Heritage Church
also contributes to these missionaries and international outreach organizations:
Community-based Health Care in Cambodia (Irene Mparutsa), Youth With A Mission (Rebeca
Carter) serving in the Birth Attendent School in Sudan, China Outreach
Ministries at Penn State (Cathy and Ben Bidelspach), Maasai Community Health
Mission in Kenya, Africa (Jon and Vera Steury), John Wesley Seminary, Monterey,
Mexico (Ron and Bonnie Hipwell), and the Mulungwishi Seminary in Congo, Africa
(David and Lori Persons).
Heritage Church operates a local International Shop every Saturday from May
through October, selling crafts made by artisans from third world countries,
thereby providing a market for the artisans so they can provide for their
families. Various groups within Heritage Church also work to contribute to
additional causes in the local and surrounding areas.
Heritage Church sponsors a Mission Work Team each year to a region of the country needing help with home repairs, often due to flooding or hurricanes.
